YASINI CUSTOM DESIGN PROCESS
When you make your appointment with one of our personal jewelry consultants, you have begun a process that will deliver a piece of the finest quality and is crafted with the utmost care. A custom-designed piece means your jewelry is precious and one-of-a-kind, a keepsake family heirloom that is never compromised. Here are the steps in creating a treasure you’ll always cherish.
Consultation
Call us to set up a private appointment. Whether you are interested in an engagement ring, wedding band, pendant, bracelet, necklace or a different piece or set, we’ll sit down and help you create exactly what your heart desires. If diamonds are incorporated, we’ll discuss the shape, carat weight, and other criteria. Once the diamond(s) is selected, we’ll help you decide on a setting. You may want to bring in images, pictures, or a drawing to show what you have in mind. We can also work with you to develop something from scratch.
CAD Design and Renderings
Once the piece has been conceptualized and discussed, we create a customized computer-aided design (CAD). The CAD file provides you with a feel of what your piece will look like. During this process you can request changes to ensure your jewelry is exactly what you have in mind, with all the design aspects you desire. Our designers can incorporate just about any changes to the CAD you can imagine. The CAD file illustrates the design from many different views. Below is an image of a CAD file for an engagement ring:
The CAD file is then used to generate a digital rendering of the ring to provide an illustration of what the finished product will look like. Each view of the CAD file can be rendered and the sample below is built using the perspective angle. At this point, you can determine whether you would like to move forward with the design or request changes. We only proceed to the next step after you approve both the CAD file and renderings.
Wax Growing
Wax growing means we “grow” a 3-dimensional wax of your piece. We use only the latest rapid prototype technology (EnvisionTec or Solidscape). If desired, you can now “see” your creation with the actual dimensions prior to casting.
Casting and Finishing
Our production department takes the approved wax and attaches (sprews) it to a tree using a hot wax pen. The wax tree is then covered with a flask and filled with investment. This is similar to plaster. The investment dries and the flask is inserted into an oven to burn out the wax (called Lost Wax Casting). When the wax is burned out, every detail of the piece is left as an imprint in the investment (which now looks like gypsum/drywall). The desired metal is melted and forced into the investment mold. When it cools it forms the unfinished piece. The piece is then broken out of the investment, clipped from the tree, and sent to the mass finishing department for polishing and diamond/stone setting. The piece is now complete.
Quotation Request Form
Please fill out the following form in order to get a quotation for your custom jewelry. We will get back to you within one business day.
Our standard production time ranges between 12 to 15 days, although this will largely depend on the complexity of the piece in question. This is why we ask our clients for an ideal deadline, which is how we develop our timetables. We stress that our clients anticipate our production dates when creating an ideal turnaround time.
What if I don't know the ring size? That’s not a problem. We can send you a ring sizer to try on before we start the job.
No, but we do need to make some clarifications. If your piece of jewelry is unique to you and has a very distinctive design, then we will not copy the elements that have made it your own. While we retain copyright ownership on all works we create, as a courtesy we don't exactly copy custom designs that we’ve made for a customer. If you are only making a version of one of our regular designs, then yes, we can still make it. If your design is generic - that is, not specific - we cannot allow that design to be removed from our repertoire.
For legal reasons, we do not copy other designer's work. But if you would like to have a design created in a similar motif or feeling as the designer piece, we can certainly create a new piece that meets your expectations. This is considered to be designer-inspired jewelry, which is one of our specialties.
No. We retain copyright ownership on everything we make.
We are more than happy to set your heirloom diamonds or gemstones in your custom design piece. However, it’s important to note that we are not responsible if the stone breaks during setting. To help prevent this, we subject stones to inspection for chips, nicks, and broken parts. This helps ensure that your stone is ready for the setting process. If you’re ready to take those old pieces in the bottom of your jewelry box and turn them into something new and exciting, we can do exactly that.
Custom designed jewelry can cost much less than you might expect. Our custom designs tend to be priced equivalent or cheaper than comparable mass-manufactured designs. Upon placing your order for your one-of-a-kind jewelry, a $250 deposit will be charged. This fee is not an extra cost, as it is already included in the quote we provide you.
Yes. To create a band that exactly matches your engagement ring, we must have access to the engagement ring. If you’d like, you can have your local jeweler take out the center stone before submitting your engagement ring to us.
We work with a wide variety of precious metals, including 14k white, yellow and rose gold, 18k white, yellow and rose gold, platinum, and palladium.
New models, custom designs and special orders are non-returnable. To meet your expectations, we start manufacturing your ring upon your CAD rendering image approval. We also send you the wax of your design before we cast it.
